Canada/New England 2022 Trip Details

We cruised from New York with host Carla Scott and participated in knitting workshops with Norah Gaughan and Michele Lee Bernstein.

Newport

We spent the morning touring the wealthy town of Newport and shopping at a couple of local yarn stores – the gracious ladies at Knitting Needles provided swag for us and showed us locally dyed yarns. On returning to the ship, we settled down to one of two knitting workshops. Michele Lee Bernstein taught Introduction to 2 color Brioche, while Norah Gaughan showed her group Knit Fold Pleat Repeat: techniques in pyramids, pleats and smocking.

Portland

In Portland the group was treated to a 60-minute trolley tour of Portland lead by two very engaging tour guides, ending at Port Fiber. Mary Jane Mucklestone and Bristol Ivy were on hand at Port Fiber to talk about their designs, books and answer all of our questions.

Bar Harbor

Even though it was a rainy morning we all tendered to the pier to meet Michelle McCann and her Knit Fit helpers. We were all outfitted with Knit Fit Knits and mastered the art of walking and knitting on our way to La Rochelle Mansion. A tour of the historic mansion was followed by coffee, tea and tea cakes as we knitted on the patio overlooking the bay.

St John – Bay of Fundy

We explored the city of St. John, learning about the extreme tidal changes in the bay, visiting the city market and local yarn stores. Knitters that visited Good Fibrations had the opportunity to purchase yarn dyed exclusively for us and were treated to swag bags.

Halifax

Some of the group participated in a private 5-hour Winery and Mill tour, taking us to tastings at two wineries with locally produced wines and ciders. The Gaspereau Valley Fibers proved to be a quaint farm and wool shop. The knitters were able to tour the sheep farm and learn a little about their production of wool from their Cotswold sheep.

At Sea

Our last day was spent onboard, sailing back to New York, taking part in the workshops with Michele Lee Bernstein and Norah Gaughan and knitting together.
