Our knitting group enjoyed a scenic journey through Denmark, Sweden and Norway, attending workshops with, Åsa Tricosa, Katine Hannibal and Ingunn Birkeland.
Copenhagen
The group was taken on tours of Copenhagen’s Old Town, the Little Mermaid, and Amager Faelled. Åsa Tricosa gave a presentation of her Ziggurat technique, and the group had fun with her sweater trunk show as well as a selection of yarn from Helle Westermann of the Danish Dye Lot, and botanical prints from her sister Alice W.
We traveled along the Danish Riviera to Fredericksburg Castle where we were given a guided tour of the 17th century castle before visiting Őnling, Katrine Hannibal’s workshop. The group participated in a workshop, while listening to Katrine’s very interesting lecture and enjoying coffee and tea.
Stockholm
Then the group boarded a ferry from Helsingør to travel to beautiful Stockholm. The group enjoyed a yarn crawl, visiting some of the city’s knitting and yarn stores as well as tours of the medieval Gamla Stan, and a visit to the City Hall, home of the annual Nobel Prize banquet.
Oslo
On the way to Oslo, we were treated to a wonderful lunch with a local couple, who welcomed us to their renovated 19th century restaurant that featured local produce. A visit to see the Norwegian sculptures left behind by Gustav Vigeland in his sculpture park, was a highlight of the city tour of Oslo. A stop at the Heimen Husfliden store was an opportunity to see Norwegian folk costumes and purchase yarn and sweaters.
The creative Ingunn Birkland provided a workshop introducing us to 70 colors of Finull from Rauma Garn and showed us harmonious color combinations for knitting.
